Para nuestros alumnos que preparan para sus exámenes en junio, julio y agosto, comparto los siguientes consejos y trucos, y os deseamos buena suerte y ánimo!

  • Go over your past test papers and identify your common mistakes– perhaps you will see that you need to revise a specific grammar structure. Tell your teacher about it, ask for help/ explanations, and also extra exercises

  • It is best to review vocabulary and grammar a little every day rather than, only spend one hour at the weekend.

  • When recording vocabulary, make sure you write down the preposition that goes with it. It is best to learn the combination of a word with its preposition or a “collocation”, rather than learn separate words individually

  • When recording new vocabulary or learning new grammar structures, write down a sentence that applies to you and to your situation. If you “personalise” a new word/expression, you are a lot more likely to remember it!!

  • Try and use new expressions/words in class straight away to test yourself and check you fully understand it. If you don´t write the word down and say it, you will probably forget how to use it!

  • Keep a notebook where you can collect ideas to use in essays and in the speaking exam. You need to have something to say on various topics, but it doesn´t have to be original, you can share ideas with your classmates.

  • Try not to be too ambitious with ideas when writing- you risk making your sentences too long, and incoherent (difficult to read and follow) Keep ideas simple but use a variety of advanced language.

  • Keep a notebook with various writing task plans– the planning process is very important!

  • Practice speaking about different photos and topics with your classmates- comparing, not just describing!
